Structures of Resistance

2015

This project is the result of a residency at Bogong Center for Sound Culture.

These photos are a direct response to the structures that extract and harvest electricity from the landscape around the Bogong Alpine Village. Within a literal reading these are concrete forms created with the explicit intent of harnessing power from nature. They stand as structures of resistance, designed to create a point of tension, obstructing and molding natural forces towards human intention. As isolated and somewhat abstracted imagery they can be read metaphorically as a psychological structures / environments containing tension, transference, the dynamic push and pull of contraction against expansion; solid form harnessing fluid power, water and earth feeding fire. Withn the darkness of the dam wall there are structures mirroring the alchemical geometries of deep psychological transformation.
