Lumen
Interactive Installation2008
Programming by Pierre Gufflet
LUMEN employs indirect interaction, appropriating its narrative from the viewers around it, as their physical presence displace and animate shafts of light in a liquid filled aquarium. The interactive relationship is subtle and discreet. It plays an enchanting game of fascination with its audience, casting them as Narcissus, drawn towards a displaced echo of their own physical presence in the form of a responsive 3 dimensional auroral display. It is an object of fascination, presenting the phenomena of extruded light in motion, appearing as a wondrous community. It exploits the simple allure of watching ethereal form in movement and observing group dynamics. It inspires playful interaction, animated engagement and gentle contemplation.
